POLE MER PACA

Mission statement & challenges

A sustainable and secure position in the Mediterranean

The PACA Marine Competitivity Centre has the ambition of becoming a global reference for the mastering of sustainable development and safety in the Mediterranean.

The sea, both channel for exchanges, strategic political issue, as well as energy and food resource, is one of the key elements of the future global development.

The Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur Region has the relevant assets to meet these challenges, as much due to its position in the Mediterranean arch as on its North-South exchange axis. It has the ambition of playing a significant role in the definition and the implementation of an efficient maritime and solidarity policy in the Mediterranean.

Since its creation in 2005, the PACA Marine Competitivity Centre has decided to focuse its action on the sustainable development and safety, with five themes:

The Marine Centre intends to establish in the Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur Region, a Centre of Excellence for enterprises, research and training centres for these sectors, with, as a plus, the whole Mediterranean basin as a experimentation field.

A Centre firmly rooted in its territories

The PACA Marine Competitivity Centre intends to capitalize on the economic and technological resources of each of its coastal territories.

Centred around its sustainable development, maritime security and safety themes, the PACA Marine Centre intends to expand its territorial coverage to the Languedoc-Roussillon and Corsica. Consequently, each territory, through its own specificities, enhances comprehensive regional expertise. The Marine Centre will complete this territorial rooting with the creation of several symbolic areas.

Towards a comprehensive maritime programme for France

The PACA Marine Centre intends to contribute to the creation of a real maritime programme, at national, even European, dimension.

Beyond security and environmental trends, the PACA Marine Centre is working towards setting up a priority programme in the field of maritime economy, in which innovation finds adequate funding resources, either through private funds, or through new national and European public policies.

For an international influence of the PACA Region

The Marine Centre intends to establish, in the Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur Region, a worldwide attraction centre for maritime know-how and technologies.

Besides entrepreneurs, SMEs and important groups, researchers and training centres, the Marine Centre supports the development of technologies, products and innovative services for maritime activities in the PACA Region. Through a systematic networking approach, the Marine Centre contributes to the international influence of its regional expertise.
