Optimise regional training resources
The PACA Marine Competitivity Centre is exerting considerable efforts to effectively identify and optimally match training requirements with existing training resources available in its territory for those topics that fall under its responsibility.
By supporting higher educational programs that meet the needs of the regional marine sector, the PACA Marine Competitivity Centre will consolidate a long-standing “melting-pot” of marine specialists.
The PACA Marine Competitivity Centre is actively promoting the fine reputation of regional training programs in its specific subject areas. In particular, it supports the set up of initial high-level specialized training programs, enabling very skilled and high-level specialists to be trained. For example, a Marine MBA (EUROMED) and a Master in Complex Naval Systems (ISITV) have been approved by the Marine Competitivity Centre and will start shortly.
Moreover, in the framework of specific projects, the Marine Competitivity Centre is also encouraging continuing education, especially in a work-study mode.
The Toulon‘s Digital Electronics Institute (ISEN) has therefore expanded its general engineering studies programme with a module on « underwater robotics in hostile environment».
Regarding businesses, the COFOSERNAV, DCNS Services Toulon project and its partners assure the work-study program of young people with a “bac pro” (a professional secondary school diploma) for naval maintenance occupations such as boilermakers, piping specialists, welders, electricians, electrical engineers, mechanics and diesel specialists.
Good professional job prospects is an essential prerequisite for attracting and retaining highly qualified and motivated students to this region.
The PACA Marine Competitivity Centre is seeking to promote local training programs and to ensure they meet the needs of its affiliated companies. It therefore intends to reinforce regional competence and expertise and to attract and orientate new students towards tomorrow’s most promising job sectors which are also recruiting professionals on the short term. This implies continuous monitoring and accurate identification of profiles sought by companies in the different sectors, as well as implantation of relevant training programmes.
In this framework, a group of engineering schools of the PACA Region and pole businesses have recently created a Master (Baccalaureat + 6 years level) in the field of «complex naval systems» that will be introduced for school year 2008-2009.
The PACA region can boast of excellence and diversity in the marine studies offered at its public and private higher educational institutions. Likewise, regional businesses are eager to recruit additional personnel in marine-related activities.
