Working towards a cluster of global excellence
One of the aims of the Sea Innovative and Business cluster is, within its territory, to concentrate global competences and know-how in offshore engineering for marine energies.

The increase of demand coupled with rocketing of the price of fossil marine energy resources, are pushing their exploitation to the deep sea-bed, not well-known geographical areas and currently under-equipped.
The Pôle Mer PACA wants to valorize know-how and deep offshore expertise specific to the PACA region. Its goal is to attract offshore engineering companies and research centers to create a real deep offshore global « spot ».
As of today, it creates and supports synergies between different regional actors, especially by coordinating SMEs in their relations with their major oil and gas industry contractors.
Aware of future challenges, the cluster aims at developing economic activities revolving around the mastery of safety and sustainable development (renewable energies …), especially by focusing on technology transfer.
In this very conservative activity sector, the major challenge lies in the operational implementation of innovative solutions for the exploitation of fossil or renewable energy resources.
Innovative solutions to be developed consist in technological advances or developments in the exploitation systems and methods. It seems that the industrialists of the sector, wishing to stay clear of any financial risk, stay cautious faced with changes. Therefore, this involves bringing them solutions which are immediately reliable.
Moreover, the Pôle Mer PACA supports innovative projects to their maturity, in order to optimize operational implementation.
It has to coordinate regional industrialists around common research and development strategies.
Concerning renewable energies, the Pôle Mer PACA has to come up with solutions, which in the end, are profitable when implemented.
In the PACA region, Oil and Gas industry (major companies and SMEs) are seeking joint research and development strategies aimed at reinforcing their positions on a well-established market.
