POLE MER PACA

Environment and coastal management

For a sustainable thriving coast
Covering the entire coastal area of the Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur region, the Sea Innovation and Business Cluster plays a key role in the mastery of environmental challenges linked to the sea, combining valorization of human and economic activities, all while safeguarding resources.

Concerted development of coastal areas

Coastal areas, especially the Mediterranean coast, represent an ideal site for human and economic activities, but also a vital potential for natural resources, renewable or not.

The Mediterranean coast, especially in the Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur region, Languedoc-Roussillon and Corsica, is confronted with similar pressures: financial challenges, climate risks, pollution and managment of water resource.

The pôle Mer is seeking to contribute to the valorization of these zones with ambitious settlement projects which take a long-term approach to environmental challenges, particularly for building of dikes, dredging or extension of harbours.

On these issues, the Pôle Mer assists regional companies and laboratories on innovation and market strategy.

Aligning interests

Between environmental innovation and financial investments, projects supported by the pôle Mer should propose a perfect balance of interests for the different actors.

Port de Marseille

For the Sea Innovation and Business cluster, the keys to success are innovation: new ideas, new actors, new projects. All the same, it continues to be on the watch for the development of market-oriented projects linked to operational environmental management.
This involves knowledge and modeling of the environment, combined with mastery of the environmental risk. Therefore, scientific and technological progress is of utmost importance, just like the concerted management of the coastal area settlement.
In this field, the marine cluster must develop its action by highlighting “showcase” projects, and by consolidating international cooperation actions, especially Mediterranean projects.

Quantity and quality together

With regard to these projects, the Pôle Mer PACA federates a number of industrial actors and researchers. Its territory covers Languedoc-Roussillon and Corsica, but even all of the countries of the Mediterranean basin sharing the same concerns for the future of the coastal area. The marine cluster also supports some programs with the DOM-TOM (french overseas administrative departments and territories).
